Why fundraise through the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop?
AAPS school groups have raised many thousands of dollars to support teams, clubs, classrooms, groups, choirs, orchestras, bands, and others on field trips, team and/or concert travel, and many more enrichment and extra-curricular activities.
Fundraising proceeds help offset growing costs for travel, equipment, uniforms, special events, entry fees and more. Schools, groups, clubs and teams working together with the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop can help make these valuable activities more affordable for all students.
Our fundraising opportunities are available for all Ann Arbor Public Schools PTOs, clubs, organizations, and school-sponsored student enrichment activities.
We are a nonprofit working for our local community by supporting the Ann Arbor Public Schools, its PTOs and its students with fundraising opportunities, reselling usable donated merchandise (recycling), and employing local residents with full- and part-time work opportunities.
How to get started
- Every Ann Arbor Public School’s PTO has a volunteer liaison with the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop: this is your School Rep. What’s a “Rep”? Having a School Rep is required in order to participate in our fundraising activities. If your school doesn’t have a representative, please consider signing up to be one.
- Review our Fundraising Activities and decide what your group would like to do.
- Contact us by email: firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a fundraising activity. Write “fundraising” and your school group’s name in the subject line.
When do school PTOs receive the funds?
The Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop distributes the earnings from fundraising activities to PTOs throughout the school year, beginning in September and finishing in May.
Funds earned throughout the school year are tabulated and distributed in the next scheduled profit distribution following the fundraising activity. Our regular scheduled payouts include SEPTEMBER (for fundraising activities completed from June through September), JANUARY (for fundraising activities completed from October through January), and MAY (for fundraising activities completed from February through May).
Funds earned in the summer months (June, July and August) are distributed in September.
Itemized fundraising earnings are sent to the school PTO treasurer for allocation or distribution to each participating school group.
Groups receiving Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop funds are responsible for compliance with IRS regulations regarding 501(c)(3) fundraising (i.e. funds must benefit the group as a whole, not any one individual or individuals).
