Scheduling work: You must sign up in advance to work in the shop. We are now doing a "rolling sign-up" plan whereby volunteers can come in any time the store is open and sign up for work. We will always have 30 pages open at a time - just ask the Manager for the sign-up folder and find a time that works for you! We are often booked several weeks in advance so please don't wait until the last minute to sign up! If you are unable to find a shift that works for you, we do have a waiting list which we use in case of cancellations. *Students must work for a school sponsored, curriculum-driven activity [no students may get paid directly] If you have a question about whether or not an activity is acceptable, please call (734)996-9155. Students MAY work before they have a specific activity in mind and then notify the manager who will transfer the information, i.e., you can work in the summer in advance for an upcoming trip in the Fall or Spring. *School age volunteers must be in high school or have completed the eighth grade. Middle schoolers will no longer be able to volunteer, even if attended by a parent. *Parents may volunteer with or without a student and are especially needed during school hours. *NO MORE THAN 2 SIGN-UPS PER PERSON PER WEEK WITH ONLY 1 OF THOSE 2 SIGN-UPS ON THE WEEKEND, AND NO DOUBLE SHIFTS |

Work Shifts: Volunteers may sign up for a two-hour time block per day and two of these shifts per week. The only exceptions are when there are openings during the early weekday hours when students are in school. |

What to Expect: Parking * Please do not park in front of the store. Park on Jewett please.* When you are working in the shop you will work off of our daily duties list, and may be asked to do a wide range of duties, including: tagging clothes, sweeping, organizing merchandise, taking out the garbage, packing up off-season items, testing incoming electronics, etc. The first thing you should do is sign-in under your school and specific group or activity. If there is no sheet for your activity in the sign-in book, talk to a manager. If you do not know what you are working toward yet, talk to a manager about starting a "to-be-determined" sheet and be sure to switch over the hours when you decide what you want to use them for. Also, make sure that you sign out before you leave so that all of your hours are accounted for! |

What to Wear: You should wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes. While we provide you with an apron to wear during the shift, please know that you may get dirty or dusty while you work. Please also keep your valuables in your car or at home during your shift. |

Cancelling: If you need to cancel your shift, please do so as far in advance as possible. This will allow others the opportunity to sign up for that shift. If you cancel at the last minute (or are a no-show), the PTO Thrift Shop has the right to cancel your next shift. |
Please also Keep in Mind: All volunteers must sign a contract! *Be on time! If you are more than 15 minutes late for your shift you cannot work and must reschedule. *Only persons who are assigned to work may volunteer- do not bring younger siblings or older relatives to work with you during your shift. *Volunteers should always be kind, courteous and professional during your shift; *Volunteers who are goofing around, shopping during their shift, or displaying a poor attitude will be asked to leave. |

Other things you may want to know: Pay-Out: AAPTO Thrift Shop keeps a record of everyone’s hours worked in the sign-in binder, and then passes all of that information over to representatives from each of the schools twice a year (Feb 29 and August 31). Beyond that, each school's PTO handles their pay out process differently although the money should be available by mid-March and mid-September. For the contact information for your school’s representative please call the shop at (734)996-9155 and address any logistical questions to them. Also, the PTO reserves the right to change the pay rate based on decreased or (hopefully) INcreased profits. |
