We are sorry to say that our truck is out of service until we fill a driver vacancy. Once we’re back on the road, we’ll post to our website, our Facebook page, and in the Shop. You can reach us by phone at 734-996-9155. Managing the shop (where we are also trying to hire staff), the truck schedule, and the many pickup requests we receive has been a struggle for several weeks. We simply must regroup and have sufficient, capable staffing before we can resume the pickup service. You are always welcome to bring your furniture to us and we can assess it at the door. Furniture donations can be made outside of our normal donation hours by prearrangement with a manager. We realize for some of you, moving, loading, and transporting your items isn’t feasible. You could try contacting Habitat Restore, Ann Arbor Kiwanis, or the Share House to see if one of these well-deserving nonprofits can assist you. This is a difficult situation to be in, hopefully we will fill our staff vacancies soon. Thank you for being an Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop supporter!

We are sorry to announce a COVID-related closure. On August 15th, a staff member tested positive for COVID. Any exposure while in our shop would have occurred the week of August 3rd through August 9th. This has been reported to the Washtenaw County Health Department. We are closed and following CDC and Health Department guidelines. Staff are self quarantining and will be tested if they become symptomatic. A reopening date will be announced here and on Facebook.

As Governor Whitmer begins to allow businesses to open with new safety guidelines, your Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop is preparing for when it’s our turn! However, when that will be is still unknown. While planning for our safely reopening has been ongoing, it’s now time to begin putting our plan into action. We will be following all State mandated orders and requirements to keep our staff, customers and donors safe.
We have some exciting news! Our landlord has installed iWave-C Air Purifiers on our HVAC systems. Although the COVID-19 virus has not been made available for testing with our new purifier, the iWave family of products have been proven through independent lab testing to significantly reduce a wide variety of pathogens and viruses similar to coronavirus in the breathing zone and on hard non-porous surfaces. We are reengineering our traffic patterns – entry, exit, shopping areas, and checkout area. We are making signs and posting where needed to help direct you in staying safe. All staff and customers will be required to wear masks in the store, and adhere to 6-foot social distancing. We are redoing how we accept donations and will have a new holding area. All incoming donations will stay in our holding area for a 3-day minimum period before being processed for sale.
There’s much to do and as new requirements for opening occur, we are adapting. Our staff will be coming back to work and prepping the store for a minimum of a week before we will welcome back our shoppers. We will keep you posted and will share our reopening date with you as soon as it is set.

We, like so many local businesses and nonprofits, are closed for safety and to Slow the Spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. We are missing our staff, our customers, our donors and our income. We’ve many worries like everyone experiencing this challenging period of time, from both a business perspective and for each, from a personal one.
We closed to shoppers and donors on March 15th and furloughed our staff on March 22nd. During that week, we busied ourselves with inventory processing, deep cleaning, reorganization, and painting for a fresh new “reopening look!” Before the last of us left the building on the last day, we dust covered nearly everything in the shop. Stocked shelving and clothing racks appear ghostly, forlorn, and lonely throughout the store, waiting for the “Open sign” to be lit, the parking lot to be full, and the store busy with thrifty shoppers doing their thing!
With so many unknowns, we worry about the personal lives of our staff, our ability as a business to reopen and rebuild lost revenues, and our mission to support the Ann Arbor Public School PTOs and students.
Over the past week, we’ve all seen numerous requests for support and the responses and outpouring from the community has been wonderful and humbling to observe and take part in. All are deserving and in need, and so many are helping with what or with how they can.
In the next days and weeks, know that we miss you and we are anxious as ever to reopen! Be well and stay tuned for updates!

Because the AAPS strategy is one of prevention and mitigation both for our school community and the community at large, as supporters of AAPS, we are following suit and closing the Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop until further notice. We all must do our part in taking preventive action at the community level to help flatten the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We encourage all of you to do your part as well and appreciate your understanding in this unprecedented time. As always, Safety First!
